Three Patriot Leaguers Named to ECAC Football All-Star Team

Jan. 9, 2008

Center Valley, Pa. - The final postseason honors for the 2007 football campaign are out, and Colgate linebacker Mike Gallihugh, Lafayette linebacker Andy Romans and Fordham punter Benjamin Dato all represent the Patriot League on the ECAC Football Championship Subdivision All-Star team.

Dato finished his career with the best punting average in Patriot League history at 44.63 yards per punt. He had the second-best year in League history with a 44.66 average in 2007, punting 67 times for 2,992 yards and pacing Fordham to the No. 1 mark in net punting nationally.

Gallihugh was a candidate for the Buck Buchanan Award, given to the top defensive player in the FCS, throughout the season. He recorded 123 tackles, 10 tackles for loss, 3.5 sacks and three interceptions in 2007.

Romans led a Lafayette unit that finished the season ranked first nationally in total defense. He finished the season with 113 tackles, 12.5 tackles for loss, three sacks, three forced fumbles and three fumble recoveries.

The Patriot League has placed at least three players on the ECAC Football All-Star team in each season of its 22-year history. Gallihugh and Dato made the squad for the second year in a row.

For Gallihugh and Dato, the ECAC honor also adds to their collection for the 2007 season. Gallihugh was previously named a Second-Team All-American by the Associated Press and The Sports Network, and was also a member of the College Sporting News Fabulous 50 team. Dato earned First-Team All-America honors from The Sports Network and second team from the AP. Romans receives his first national postseason honor after earning 2007 Patriot League Defensive Player of the Year recognition. All three players were First-Team All-Patriot League picks.
