Seven Patriot League Football Seniors Named to 2008 Hampshire Honor Society

Center Valley, Pa. - Seven graduating Patriot League football student-athletes were recognized for their achievements in the classroom and on the field with a place on the 2008 Hampshire Honor Society, as announced by the National Football Foundation & College Hall of Fame.

Georgetown's Kyle Van Fleet and Lafayette's Mark Plumby were on the list along with Dana Buglione, Justin Maher and Adam Sadowski of Holy Cross and Nick Mozal and Ryan Walsh of Bucknell. Six of the seven student-athletes earned a spot on the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the fall, while Van Fleet also received the League's Football Scholar-Athlete of the Year award.

In addition to winning the Patriot League's top honor, Van Fleet was a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy and earned a selection on the ESPN The Magazine Academic All-District First-Team. Van Fleet carries a 3.73 cumulative grade point average as a Business and Management major, and earned Second-Team All-Patriot League honors at the fullback/halfback position while pulling in 44 receptions for 478 yards in 2007. He earned Academic Honor Roll plaudits in each of his four seasons.

Plumby holds a 3.48 grade point average as an Economics & Business major. He finished his senior season with 50 tackles and 6.5 tackles for loss, and earned a place on the Academic Honor Roll.

Buglione has a 3.43 grade point average in Studio Art, and was twice named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll. He totaled six tackles and a sack for the Crusaders during the 2007 season.

Maher owns a 3.40 grade point average in History, and was named to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll for the third time this fall. He caught four passes for 38 yards and two touchdowns in 2007 as a backup wide receiver.

Sadowski carries a 3.30 grade point average in History, and was selected to the Patriot League Academic Honor Roll this year. A two-year starter along the defensive line, he totaled 35 tackles and nine tackles for loss in 2007, while tying for the team lead with four sacks.
 

 

Mozal holds a 3.83 grade point average as an Economics major at Bucknell. He was a semifinalist for the Draddy Trophy, and started seven games with one reception for the Bison in 2007.

Walsh has recorded a 3.75 grade point average as an American History major. Walsh was named to the ESPN The Magazine All-District Team, and had a strong season on the field with 44 tackles, five tackles for loss and two sacks.

The team is comprised of graduating seniors from schools across the country who were starters or key reserves and maintained a cumulative grade point average of at least 3.20. A total of 441 players from 227 schools were selected to this year's Honor Society.
